Congratulations to our Club Champions 2018

On Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th August 2018, our finalists battled it out over several rounds on an immaculately presented golf course at Kilmacolm Golf Club. The competition was fierce and the standard of golf on display was nothing short of spectacular. With many matches going the full distance, it made for a great spectacle of our sport.

With the numbers whittled down, Sunday saw the final matches of this year’s tournament being bravely contested. In the men's final we had Andrew Farmer playing Stuart Gray. This was an engrossing match that went all the way to the 18th where this year's Champion, Andrew Farmer, emerged victorious. Well done Andrew on your 11th Club Championship victory.

Our Ladies matches were just as keenly contested and Sunday played host to a fantastic match between Romy Erskine and Megan Briggs. The quality of golf was of an exceptionally high standard and the lead changed hands throughout the match. Megan managed to emerge victorious this time and is again our Club Champion for 2018. Romy played excellent and is definitely one to watch in the next few years. Congratulations Megan!

Not to be outdone, our Junior matches were as exciting to watch as the senior matches. On Sunday, the field had been narrowed to the final match between Mackenzie Holmes and Harry Kellock. A phenomenal advert for Junior golf was watched by the many spectators that turned up on the day to offer support and after a great match, Mackenzie managed to get across the line to become the Junior Champion of 2018. Well Done Mackenzie!

Thank you to everyone who helped organise and support our finals. Special thanks to the Greens staff for presenting the course in great condition, the catering team for keeping everyone fed and watered and to the office staff for pulling everything together. Our events wouldn't be a success if it was not for the selfless support of many Members and a massive thanks is owed to the volunteers that helped make it such a fantastic weekend.

Here's to 2019!

2018 Gents Open

In perfect weather, 128 players teed it up for our 10th Annual Gents Open on Sunday 24th June. The course was in perfect condition after a long hot dry spell. One of the conditions of our competition, is that players can only win one prize. It was a close run affair, with the winner having to be decided on a count back over the last 9 holes. Lee Jenkins (Elderslie G.C.) and Kilmacolm’s Conar Campbell both had excellent rounds of 1 under par 68, however Lee Jenkins lifted the trophy and the first prize voucher of £160. Conar had the consolation however of picking up 1st place in the A Class Handicap event with his Net 63 earning him a voucher of £110. In 2nd place with a Net 65 was Jim Schiavone (Lundin Links), 3rd place was Frank Boyland (Kilmacolm) with a 66 edging out Norman Bowie (Machrahanish) on countback. On the same score score of 66 was Kilmacolm’s Charles Conway who was unfortunate to miss out on the prizes due to countback.

Stewart Watt wins 2017 Gents Open

Another successful Gents Open Competition was held on Sunday 25th June, when 128 players braved the windy conditions at Kilmacolm. The high winds in conjunction with the fast contoured greens led to some high scoring, with the CSS on the day being 70 for members, and 72 for visitors.
At the end of play the Scratch Trophy and overall winner with a gross 70 was STEWART WATT, from neighbouring Old Course Ranfurly Golf Club. (Pictured below). Sharing a gross score of 70 with Stewart was Kilmacolm member RYAN COPLAND, who unfortunately missed out due to Stewart’s better inward half. Ryan however had the consolation of winning the A Class Handicap prize with a net 68. Ryan is pictured below receiving his award from Club Captain Kenny Wilson.
In the B Class Handicap section, this was also won with a net 68 by Kilmacolm Member MITCHELL ROBB playing off 11.
Full list of scores and prize winners can be viewed by clicking here

Many thanks to all who helped make the day a success. To Lindsay and David in the Pro Shop, to Stewart and all the Bar and Kitchen staff, to starters Jim Hood, Jane MacDonald and Ken Macconacher and to Tom McKinley for scoring and general support. Finally to the Greenkeeping team for presenting the course in such an excellent condition that prompted widespread praise from visitors and members.

Spring has Sprung!!

Well it's official!  The sun is shining and winter is starting to fade in to the distance! (Fingers crossed!)

The warmer weather has been welcomed with the grass starting to grow and the course is already looking magnificent!

Here's to a fantastic season with great weather, fun and competitive golf and new friendships.  We have great plans for the Club this year and alongside a packed golfing schedule we have a thriving social scene to carry on from our extremely successfuly whisky and gin tasting nights.  Stay tuned to the website for more details and check out the notice boards at the Club for more information.

If you have any friends that would like to come and join us at Kilmacolm, please get in touch with either myself or Jan in the office.  As always, if there is anything you need throughout the year, please get in touch and I will do my very best to help.

I hope you have a great season in 2017 and that you play well and enjoy your membership at the Club.

May your ball find the short grass!!
