Kilmacolm Golf Club emerged victorious in this year’s Spiers Trophy competition at Hilton Park in June.

The matches are played off scratch on a bogey basis, with the team with the best aggregate score winning. The winning team comprised Vice Captain Colin Christy, Barry & Jared Williams, Club Champion Alastair Lyle, Calum Morrison and Steven Leighton. Picture below shows Captain Sandy Greenhorn proudly holding trophy with winning team.

The Spiers Trophy is contested annually by Kilmacolm, Elderslie, Renfrew & Hilton Park. All these clubs have a connection with A A Spiers of Elderslie Estates.

The tournament, one of the oldest inter-club competitions in the world, is still going strong after 100 years.

It has survived to celebrate a century of achievement – despite two World Wars and a fire which destroyed the original silver trophy (at Kilmacolm Golf Club) just over a year after it had been gifted by AA Speirs, of Elderslie Estates, in 1911.

Mr Speirs inaugurated the event to create “a friendly and healthy rivalry” between clubs who had their courses on his land.
